India and the West Indies have been fined for maintaining slow over-rates during the third and final ODI of their three-match series in New Chandigarh on Saturday.India were four overs behind the required rate after time allowances were taken into account, while the West Indies were two overs short. As a result, India were fined 20 per cent of their match fee, while the West Indies received a 10 per cent fine.“In accordance with Article 2.22 of the ICC Code of Conduct for Players and Player Support Personnel, which relates to minimum over-rate offences, players are fined five per cent of their match fee for every over their side fails to bowl in the allotted time,” the ICC said in a statement. Both captains accepted the charges and the proposed sanctions, meaning there was no need for a formal hearing. The penalties were imposed by Prakash Bhatt of the ICC International Panel of Match Referees.On-field umpires Jayaraman Madanagopal and Sam Nogajski, third umpire Sharfuddoula Ibne Shahid and fourth umpire Virender Sharma had levelled the charges.

West Indies end ODI series on a high

The West Indies had already lost the three-match series 2-0 before the final ODI, but they finished the series with a memorable win.Led by an unbeaten 162 from captain Shai Hope, the visitors successfully chased down 352, recording their highest successful run chase in ODI cricket. Their previous best was 331/5 against Ireland in 2019.Hope also created history with his innings. He became the first wicketkeeper-captain to score more than 150 runs in an ODI innings. His knock was also the highest score by a West Indies men’s batter in a successful ODI chase, surpassing Brian Lara’s 153 against Pakistan in Sharjah in 1993.With the ODI series now over, India and the West Indies will shift their focus to the five-match T20I series, which begins on Tuesday.
